PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Plant Leader position is accountable to implement an inclusive culture, organizational strategies, standards, practices, leading business changes and the continuous growth and development of the Valleyfield Plant. The Plant Leader owns the financial performance of the site and is responsible for plant cost. The Plant Leader is also an integral partner in executing the operations strategy for the business. They are expected to lead from an outside-in perspective, understand what is necessary for the customer to be successful and manage and oversee all operations through the TPM Operating System - providing vision, strategy, and leadership to achieve and maintain the highest standards of Safety, Engagement, Cost, Productivity, Efficiency, Quality, Talent Development and Customer Service.
In addition, the Plant Leader collaborates closely with other Plant Leaders and leadership across the business to leverage One Company best practices focused on eliminating waste, serving our customers and growing and developing our people. The Plant Leader is also an active member of the community and represents Owens Corning’s interest in local affairs.
Reports to: Operations Director
Span of Control: This position has 5 direct reports and overall responsibility for approximately 55 primary employees.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Leading safety and security for an injury free work environment
- Leads from the OC Safety Stand of Safer Together: All accidents are preventable, safety is everyone’s responsibility, working safely is condition of employment
- Ensures a safe and secure work environment for all employees, contractors and visitors
- Shows passion and caring for our people, leads from our safety stand and treats safety as the first priority
- Allocates resources and identifies investments required on systems, focused programs and leadership to strive for zero injuries
- Ensures a clear and effective measurement system is established and implemented to drive results; rewards and celebrates safe behaviors and achievements as well as ensures accountability
Knowing the business and our customers
- Continuously builds insight into the business’s market, customer base and strategies
- Creates an environment where all employees are focused on serving our customers
- Develops relationships with customers to understand what it takes to ensure high quality products as defined by our customers and develops solutions to better serve our customers
- Ensures the supply of consistent quality products in a timely manner and superior customer experience that fosters customer loyalty and strong relationships; operates with a zero-defect mindset
- Gains alignment and relationship with commercial and sales team.
Executing business strategy and directing operations to drive towards manufacturing excellence
- Leads with a clear view of where the organization needs to be in 1-3 years; communicating strategic direction to employees and how it fits with the day-to-day actions and results being driven
- Provides guidance to the technical leadership in the plant
- Identifies and drives continuous improvement efforts through both the personal use and promotion of standardized work to cut cost and improve productivity and quality
- Drives cost leadership by engaging employees across the organization, identifying improvement opportunities and executing against them
- Sets clear and measurable performance expectations, in line with division and corporate goals; proactively analyzes and manages all relevant operations performance metrics
- Oversees the development of a comprehensive annual capital budget and operations plan; initiates timely and appropriate capital requests to maintain or enhance plant performance necessary to meet customer needs
- Operates with zero environmental non-conformities to applicable company, government and regulatory policies
- Continuously improves the plant operations environmental footprint consistent with company goals and community interests
Developing a positive employee relations environment
- Ensures a positive, creative, diverse and collaborative work environment where employees own the success of the business
- Selects talent based on business needs; ensures the proper trainings, tools, processes and systems are in place to empower our people to deliver against performance expectations
- Creates an environment where all employees are engaged, empowered and focused on serving our customers
- Monitors labor activities and leverages employee relations resources as appropriate to ensure compliance with all company policies and governmental regulations
- Participates in collective bargaining agreement negotiations as an employer representative.

- Builds a facility worthy of being used as marketing and communications platform, both internal and external
- Maintains productive relationships with key political and community decision makers and represents the company in relevant community matters

JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 8+Yrs. Minimum work experience in a manufacturing environment
- A minimum of three years’ experience in leading people in a cross-functional and complex environment
- Demonstrated project or process management skill
- Highly organized, resilient and self-motivated
EXPERIENCE
- Exposure to cross-functional team leadership or participation within the organization
- Experience in discrete manufacturing a plus
- A history of hiring, growing and promoting talent within an organization
- Demonstrated ability of coaching and guiding for results
- Demonstrated success of engaging others
- TPM experience preferred
- Experience in driving results and improving function, team or area productivity
