Responsibilities:

 

The Manager, Tooling Operations manages the Specialty Tooling Department to design and fabricate state-of-the art dies for molding wood composite and fiberglass door facings.  Responsibilities include partnering with operations to define tooling needs and priorities, managing the people and operation to deliver dies on-time and on-budget, and leading continuous improvement and safety of the operations.

 

  • Manages the design and fabrication of production dies for company’s door facing plants, including schedule management, die shop scheduling, management of employees, and outsourcing operations to meet the demand plan for the business.
  • Provides people leadership and development for staff of die designers, project manager, programmers, and machinists.
  • Stays abreast of large tool machining, die metallurgy, welding, and tool design technologies in order to maintain competitive advantages of the operation and lead continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for maintenance and continuous improvement of the die shop.  Develops capital improvement plans and leads the execution of capital projects.
  • Partners with company Facing Plant leadership to manage die repair and replacement needs/scheduling, and prioritizes along with production of dies for new products.
  • Manages accounting and billing for the department and individual die projects.
  • Manages purchasing of material, tooling, and outsourced services for the department.
  • Leads by example towards companies’ Target Zero safety focus.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Materials, Industrial), or Business.

 

Experience Requirements:

3+ years relevant work experience in Operations Management, especially in tooling and/or machining of large parts.  Experienced in management of technicians and technical professionals. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Fundamental and working knowledge of die design, metallurgy, and machining.

The minimum annual base salary for this position is $105,000+bonus+benefits. Base pay may increase depending on job related specific knowledge, skills and experience. The information is specific to the state of IL and may not be applicable to other areas.
