Description:

The Operations Leader is responsible for leading the Silentex Wixom Michigan manufacturing operation, working in a matrix organization. Key interface will take place with Customers, Suppliers, and Technical, Safety, and Manufacturing resources from the Composites team.   

 

The Silentex Operations Leader is accountable for delivering a strategic Ops Plan, consistent with the three stands of Owens Corning, namely 1/ drive to zero safety incidents, 2/ eliminate all forms of waste and 3/ elevate the individual performance capability of employees at the site. He/she provides operations leadership through continuous improvement/lean manufacturing and directs program management for Ops projects.

 

The position reports to the Silentex Business Manager.

 

Responsibilities:

 

SAFETY

  • Demonstrate safe working practices, promoting safety awareness and performance.  Continual Safety training of all team members to achieve full compliance with the company standards and guidelines.

 

CUSTOMER KNOWLEDGE

  • Understand clearly the requirements of customers, develop a continuous improvement culture to meet/exceed their requirements based on the use of Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Create a long-term manufacturing vision that supports business strategies and ensures we can maintain a competitive manufacturing presence.

 

Executing strategy

  • Communicates and gains alignment and commitment on the operations vision and strategy
  • Accountable for ensuring that all plants, tollers and manufacturing subcontractors are capable of delivering products and services in support of the business plan
  • Drive to manufacturing flexibility thus enabling low levels of finished goods inventory via a flexible manufacturing operation that meets changes in market demand
  • Program management of key capital investment in new secondary initiatives including new technology development, capacity adds and expansions

 

DIRECTING OPERATIONS

  • Build a lean manufacturing organizational model that competes effectively with the market place
  • Position our operations network, optimizing supply chain and developing robust service to customers
  • Lead the industrialization of products and implement stable operations with external partner or with OC facilities
  • Develop common key metrics to drive results in a continuous improvement environment and track customer quality metrics by region
  • Manage manufacturing relationships with customers and suppliers, including OEM support where required
  • Build a network of OC internal technical talent and OC external supplier talent and ensure that this manufacturing network operates seamlessly, meeting cost, safety and quality expectations and provide a best in class service around the world
  • Liaise with business leaders on new business opportunities for growth at any phase

 

LEAD AND DEVELOP TALENT

  • Build a team of operations stakeholders which exhibit the OC core values while effectively working across a matrix organizational structure.
  • Provide leadership to direct reports, share best practice across the business. 

 

CONNECTION

  • Build a network to facilitate actions to drive improved performance on all key metrics and clear financial performance metrics
  • Promote best practice sharing and implementation throughout the Composites Business by providing a common platform for all manufacturing standard work, kaizen, lean manufacturing processes, and safety performance to drive competitive change

 

Job Requirements

 

Experience:

  1. 7+  years of experience and expertise in manufacturing, plant leadership and/or operations support roles
  2. Undergraduate degree required.
  3. Multifunction experiences outside of operations

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Has good technical and process skills, is able to work with technical data to ensure fact based decisions are made
  2. Excellent communication skills. Is able to gain commitment and engagement throughout the organization
  3. Proven ability to build and lead teams.
  4. General business knowledge and clear understanding of customer needs and expectations
  5. Proven ability to network in a complex organization both internally and externally
